UK ETA from 2026 — mandatory entry authorization

Starting February 2026, the United Kingdom will complete its transition to a fully digital entry system: the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) will become mandatory for all citizens of visa-free countries. Applications can be submitted via the official website or through the UK ETA mobile app available in the App Store and Google Play.
The application fee is £16. Most applications are approved automatically within minutes. However, in some cases the review may take up to three working days, so applying in advance is strongly recommended.

You will need:

• a biometric passport;
• a digital photo;
• basic trip information;
• a bank card for payment.

An ETA is valid for two years or until the passport expires (whichever comes first). During this period, multiple trips to the UK are allowed without re-applying.
